MACD Cross Strategy

MACD Cross is one of the core momentum-based strategies in the pi-Rate system — designed to capture moments when market momentum shifts from neutral to bullish.

The signal is triggered when the MACD line crosses above its signal line and remains above zero, confirming both short-term and long-term strength.

This combination filters out noise and highlights stocks entering a new upward phase — where momentum turns into movement.

How It Works
MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence) measures the relationship between two exponential moving averages — a faster and a slower one.
The difference between them forms the MACD line, while a second, smoothed version of that line creates the Signal line.
When the MACD line crosses above its Signal line, it indicates that short-term momentum is strengthening relative to the longer trend — often marking the start of a new bullish phase.
To confirm that momentum aligns with the broader market direction, the pi-Rate Screener only flags the signal when MACD > 0, meaning the entire setup already sits above the neutral line.
This dual confirmation — crossover plus positive territory — filters out weak reversals and highlights stocks where momentum may be ready to accelerate upward.

How It Looks in the pi-Rate Screener
The example below shows the pi-Rate Screener generated on October 31, 2025, filtered to display stocks where the MACD Cross condition was triggered — when the MACD line moved above its signal line and stayed above zero.

Columns such as SMA50, SMA200, EMA21, and EMA50 are kept visible to show the broader trend context.

They help identify whether the bullish MACD crossover occurs within an existing uptrend or marks the start of a potential reversal.

The MACD and MACD Signal columns illustrate the crossover moment itself, while Signal Score shows how many of the 10 pre-calculated Pi-Rate strategies aligned on that day — confirming the strength of the setup.

Finally, the Price Performance % column reflects how each stock performed as of November 6, 2025, roughly one full trading week after the screener was created.
Historical Transparency
Unlike most market screeners that only show current data, pi-Rate provides full historical visibility into both indicator values and strategy flags.

Every daily screener generated by the system is archived and available through a shared Google Drive, allowing you to review any past market snapshot — exactly as it looked on that day.
This makes it possible to study how signals evolved over time, verify strategy consistency, and analyze real performance patterns across weeks or months.

The Price Performance % column reflects the percentage change in each stock’s closing price — measured from the end of the trading day when the screener was created to the most recent available price (delayed by approximately 20 minutes).

All current prices are retrieved directly from Google Finance, ensuring transparency and reliability of the data source.

This level of transparency turns pi-Rate into not just a screener, but a living record of market behavior.
