Trend Strength Strategy

Trend Strength identifies stocks where an existing trend is not only strong — but still gaining power.

This setup captures moments when momentum accelerates within an established direction, showing that buyers are taking control and volatility is fueling continuation rather than exhaustion.

The signal is triggered when the ADX (Average Directional Index) rises above 25 — confirming a strong, structured trend — and remains above its 20-day average, proving that the trend’s strength is increasing, not fading.

When combined with a positive +DI > –DI reading, it confirms an accelerating bullish trend with growing market participation.

How It Works
ADX (Average Directional Index) measures the strength of a trend, regardless of its direction.
It is built from two components — +DI and –DI, which represent the strength of upward and downward price moves.
When ADX rises, it signals that the market is trending; when it falls, the market is losing structure and sliding into consolidation.
In the Trend Strength setup, the Pi-Rate Screener triggers a flag when:

  • ADX > 25 — the trend is strong and clearly established.
  • ADX > Avg ADX (20-day) — the strength of the trend is increasing compared to its recent history.
  • +DI > –DI — buyers dominate, confirming an accelerating bullish trend.

This combination filters out flat or fading markets and highlights stocks where a well-defined uptrend is not only intact but gaining speed — a phase where momentum can carry price significantly higher before exhaustion sets in.

How It Looks in the pi-Rate Screener
The example below shows the pi-Rate Screener generated on October 31, 2025, filtered to display stocks that met the Trend Strength criteria — where ADX > 25, ADX > Avg ADX (20-day), and +DI > –DI.
Columns such as ADX, Avg ADX 20d, +DI, and –DI illustrate how the system measures both the strength and direction of the trend.

A rising ADX above its 20-day average signals that market momentum is expanding, while a positive DI spread confirms that buyers currently dominate the move.
The Signal Score column shows how many of the 10 pre-calculated pi-Rate strategies aligned on the same day, reinforcing the validity of the setup.

Finally, the Price Performance % column reflects how these stocks performed as of November 7, 2025 — roughly one full trading week after the screener was created, demonstrating how accelerating trends tend to sustain movement before pausing or reversing.
Historical Transparency
Unlike most market screeners that only show current data, pi-Rate provides full historical visibility into both indicator values and strategy flags.

Every daily screener generated by the system is archived and available through a shared Google Drive, allowing you to review any past market snapshot — exactly as it looked on that day.
This makes it possible to study how trend-strength signals evolved over time, verify their consistency, and observe how periods of rising ADX often preceded extended market moves.
The Price Performance % column reflects the percentage change in each stock’s closing price — measured from the end of the trading day when the screener was created to the most recent available price (delayed by approximately 20 minutes).
All current prices are retrieved directly from Google Finance, ensuring transparency and reliability of the data source.
This level of clarity turns pi-Rate into not just a screener, but a living record of market behavior — capturing how momentum and structure unfold across time.
